Some people spend their entire lives searching for their soulmate, but Sophie and Alex found each other all the way back in preschool in 1999. Growing up as lifelong best friends, they knew every single version of each other. While the idea of dating had crossed their minds over the years, it wasn't until the world completely shut down in 2020 that they finally decided to take the leap and give love a shot. Needless to say, the rest is history.
Before making things official, they accumulated plenty of unforgettable adventures. One of their absolute favorite memories belongs to the summer of 2022, when they drove a U-Haul truck cross-country from Orlando to Nashville, and finally to New York City to move in together. Spending five straight days packed into a rental truck brought endless laughter and a lifetime of funny stories.
When it came time to propose, Alex pulled off the ultimate surprise during a weekend trip to Chicago in May 2024. While walking along the harbor with Sophie’s sister, aunt, and her sister's boyfriend, everyone slowly made excuses to slip away. Left alone by the water, Alex started giving a heartfelt speech. Sophie, completely unaware, jokingly asked, "Where are we going because we don't live here and everyone left us." Alex quickly replied, "I'm making a speech!" Realizing what was happening, Sophie watched as Alex dropped to one knee with a ring beautifully crafted from his great-grandmother's jewelry. To top off the perfect, intimate moment, Alex surprised her yet again at a nearby restaurant where both of their families were waiting to celebrate.
When Eleanor at Oyster Bay Yacht Club highly recommended Southern Palms Studio, Sophie and Alex checked out their portfolio and instantly fell in love. Knowing they wanted a cohesive photo and video team who brought a warm, comfortable vibe to the day, they knew right away it was the perfect match.
Destination Magic and Minimal Elegance
Sophie and Alex always envisioned a destination wedding weekend where their favorite people could get away and celebrate together. Amelia Island held a special place in both of their hearts, as they had both vacationed there as children. The moment they stepped into Oyster Bay Yacht Club and met Eleanor, everything just clicked. The decision was effortless.
Their design theme was a masterclass in minimal elegance, showcasing a stunning green color palette that blended seamlessly with the coastal greenery of the yacht club. Sophie and Alex wanted the day to feel incredibly personal, filling the space with unique, hands-on details. Guests were greeted by a brilliant surprise photo seating chart, which the couple was incredibly excited to reveal. Inside the reception, a Polaroid guest book, delicate bud vases, a custom Polaroid cake topper, and their beautiful Ketubah hanging on display added a deeply intimate touch to the modern venue.
The celebration beautifully honored their heritage, incorporating rich Jewish wedding customs and traditions before the ceremony, during the service, and into the reception.
A Historic Dance Floor and Sweet Celebrations
For Sophie and Alex, seeing years of planning come to life before their eyes was an unforgettable experience. From the quiet emotional beats of the ceremony to the explosive energy of the reception, every moment felt entirely like them.
Once the formalities concluded, the energy shifted into pure celebration. The dance floor kicked off with an epic, high-energy Hora that had the entire room up on their feet and cheering. Between the dancing, guests treated themselves to a delicious wedding cake featuring a fresh raspberry custard with fresh berries. Through all the laughter, the couple's unique dynamic shone bright, whether Alex was subtly eyeing the venue for wrinkles or Sophie was bringing her vibrant energy to the party.
With the wedding weekend wrapped up, the newlyweds are already looking forward to their next massive travel chapter. After previously tackling an adventure to Thailand, they are packing their bags for a spectacular summer honeymoon across Greece and Barcelona. It is the perfect start to a lifetime of exploring the world together as husband and wife.
Sophie and Alex, thank you for inviting us to document your beautiful evolution from preschool best friends to newlyweds. Your story is incredibly rare and beautiful, and we wish you a lifetime of endless adventures, travel, and joy (and Sophie, we hope Alex lets you hold the remote for your next horror movie binge!).
